Sepilok Road, Sabah

This place is just 25 kilometres away from Sandakan. This place opened back in 1964 as the foremost orang-utan rehabilitation project with the aim to rescue orphaned orang-utans from plantations, illegal hunting and logging sites. These orang-utans are trained here to survive in the wild once again and are released once they are ready. Located within Kabili- Sepilok Reserve, this sanctuary is spread over an area of almost 11000 hectares, with much of it being virgin forest. Currently, there are about 80 orang- utans living free inside the reserve and is easily one of Sabah’s most visited tourist locations.
